The importance of reticulocyte detection

چکیده
Production of reticulocytes All blood cells emanate from a stem cell. Under pronounced proliferation they differentiate into cells of the three blood cell lines (erythropoiesis, granulopoiesis and thrombopoiesis). Focusing on the red blood cell (RBC) line, we see that the life span of circulating erythrocytes is approx. 120 days. Nearly 1 % of this total is lost daily and is replenished by new cells. Every second, about two millions of RBC are being produced. In the bone marrow the young erythroblasts eject their cell nucleus, becoming reticulocytes which then enter the peripheral bloodstream.

Optimized Method for Reticulocyte Counting: Simple, Accurate, and Comparable to Flow Cytometry
Background: Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells with RNA, spending the final stages of their maturation in the peripheral blood. The number of reticulocytes in the peripheral blood is the salient evidence of the effectiveness of bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Currently, reticulocyte count is done manually or automatically in clinical laboratories. Difficulties and limitations of...
متن کاملBeta-Thalassemia Carrier Detection by NESTROFT: An Answer in Rural Scenario?
Background and Objectives: Beta-thalassemia continues to be a cause of significant burden to the society particularly in the poorer developing countries. Although sophisticated methods of screening have become available, a hunt for a cheap, rapid, objective screening method still remains elusive. Thus, the objectives are to study the validity of Naked-Eye-Single-Tube-Osmotic-Fragility-Test (NES...
متن کاملReticulocyte release factor.
Some investigators have had conspicuous success with reticulocyte counting methods in animals as assay techniques for plasma erythropoietic hormone, but there has been some diversity in the reticulocytosis obtained by different workers. This communication reports the disparity between the marrow erythroid activity (assessed by counting colchicine-blocked mitoses) and the reticulocyte response i...
متن کاملThe Properties and Significance of the Reticulocyte *
The discovery of the efficacy of liver and other tissue preparations in the treatment of pernicious anemia, has brought into prominence the vital-staining erythrocyte, the reticulocyte. A knowledge of fluctuations of these cells in the blood of pernicious anemia patients has proved invaluable as an index to the success of the treatment of this malady. Likewise, the diagnostic and prognostic val...
متن کاملDiagnosis of Iron Deficiency and Iron Deficiency Anemia with Reticulocyte Hemoglobin Content among Children Aged 6-18 Years
Background: Iron deficiency (ID) is the most common micronutrient deficiency in the world. If left untreated, ID will lead to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and other irreversible consequences. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommended reticulocyte hemoglobin content (Ret-He) as an alternative laboratory examination to screen and detect ID. We aimed to compare Ret-He with other laboratory pa...
